Did you wake up this morning, and go through your normal routine, go to your normal job or operate your business as usual? Is today just another day in a sea of days that stretch as far as you can think about? Maybe you have a special lunch or a meeting you are excited about. Maybe not. You might be thinking to yourself, “So what, today is pretty great. I have it pretty good.” That may be true, and when you look at the entire world, that you are reading this blog, says you are among the successful. Which is awesome. However, my words, my blog is here to disrupt the ordinary, normal routine to move you upward in your trajectory of your career or in your business. I am committed to you achieving wild success, beyond what you can see.
Most of us work hard. We work hard to achieve a picture we have in our minds of what success looks like. Then we work hard to hold on to that, maybe moving the needle up slightly over time. That is not a bad life, in fact, it is pretty great. However, what I hear from clients all the time is a sense of “Is this it, Is this all there is?”
What if it took only one thing to really make THE difference for you? Would you do that one thing? Most people will say yes, so I am going to assume that you answered yes.
In order to do that one thing that will make a difference, you will need to allow yourself to imagine, and to be courageous. It often takes courage to move beyond what is known, what is comfortable and what is normal to do something new. It may be risky. Courage is never needed to do what one is comfortable doing, to do what is ordinary. Courage is the willingness to be afraid, to know it is risky, and act anyway. I find that when it is worth the risk, people find the courage, like when something major is at stake- courage is easily found. When something like what I am talking about, when I am asking you to go beyond comfortable to take your business or career to the next level, it is harder to summon courage, for most of us.
To summon courage and take a risk, you will need to create something that is important enough to you to do it. Since there is no inherent reason, make it up. Create it. Something like what I created which is “I want to empower all women everywhere. I am going to use my life to end the gender gap both in pay and in influence in my lifetime.” I don’t have to do that, my life or my future is not at stake if I don’t do that. However, I simply decided that was important enough to me to take risks. I have, failed at some things, and pivoted, however, I will do whatever I need to in order to fulfill that promise I made to myself- and now, to you.
Here is the thing I know; You have something that you could create that is important to you, make yourself a promise, take action to fulfill that promise and make THE difference in your career or your business. I don’t know exactly what that is, but I am certain you do. If you knew you could not fail, what would you be doing or what risk would you take? Do that today. (Remember, someday is not a day on the calendar….)
