It’s All In the View: Making Smart Business Decisions

One thing I have learned in my twenty years of coaching thousands of people; everyone is doing the best they can with what they have in any given moment. We make mistakes. We certainly did not set out to make mistakes, but make them we do. They say ‘hindsight is 20:20’, or ‘If only I had known x..’ I would have done things differently. You know. We all do. And while I cannot promise you won’t make mistakes I can make a suggestion that will decrease the frequency of mistakes and perhaps the cost and impact of them. Are you interested? Read on…
Look at how you make decisions right now. You may make your decisions emotionally, based on your gut feeling. You may make decisions based on finances. You may make decisions based on a pro and con method. You may make decisions based on other people’s opinions or to please other people. You may make decisions based on what you want or don’t want. Or you use something else to make your decisions. Whatever method you use, what I find they all have in common is the view. You are looking from YOUR view. Now, that is normal. How would you have any other way, you might ask.
Consider, if you consciously look from a different view, a different perspective, the decision- making process becomes broader and more objective and less fraught with the possibility of a mistake, especially when it comes to business.
I have worked with numerous business owners who when they embrace this concept and utilize it, make different and more successful decisions. What you do is pretend the business is a person or an entity in itself and it has needs. Take your emotion, need, want out of the equation and look from the view of the business. When you look at what the business needs or requires you will make decisions FOR the business. That doesn’t mean you won’t have to deal with your emotions or wants and needs, but you can then deal with them maturely and the business will not be at the effect of them. The business as an entity is better served for its success when you, the business owner, the caretaker of it’s future, is looking out for it’s success.
This simple twist on decision making gives you freedom and power! Try it and let me know how it is going.
